Mekong invests $6.9m in Vietnam's Wrap & Roll
Mekong Capital has invested $6.9 million in Wrap & Roll, a Vietnamese cuisine restaurant operator aiming to expand internationally.
"The founders and management team of Wrap & Roll have done an extraordinary job at establishing Wrap & Roll as a proven concept with urban consumers in Vietnam and Singapore," said Chad Ovel, a partner at Mekong said in a statement. "They have built it with the application of best practices and systematic processes seen in large international restaurant chains, which provide a foundation for the company to continue to open new restaurants at a rapid rate."
Wrap & Roll has established 11 restaurants in Vietnam and four franchise locations in Singapore since 2006. The company expects a number of new outlets to be opened in Vietnam in the near term as plans develop to launch a new concept restaurant chain later this year to address a different segment of the local market.
The deal represents the first investment from Mekong's fourth Vietnam-focused vehicle, Mekong Enterprise Fund III, which closed earlier this year at $112 million on improved sentiment for the local PE industry. The fund is focused exclusively on consumer-related businesses, which is where Mekong has enjoyed the most success in the past.
Established in 2001, Mekong employs a team of 22 people in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Earlier this month, it doubled its number of partners on staff with the appointment of two new partners to function as deal leader and head of operations, respectively.
