A selection of the transfers, promotions, arrivals, and departures in the private equity community in 2022

BRITISH INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT The UK development finance institution formerly known as CDC Group appoints Manav Bansal as its head of India. He was most recently CEO of Neev Funds. The move allows regional head Srini Nagarajan shift focus from India to Southeast Asia

EDBI Swee Yeok Chu, CEO and president of the Singapore government investor, steps down with a view to launching her own fund. She is replaced by Paul Ng, who leads direct investments in global technology companies and in Singapore-based small and medium-sized enterprises

FUTURE FUND Alicia Gregory, head of private equity at the Australian sovereign wealth fund, is promoted to deputy CIO with responsibility for private markets. She is one of three newly appointed deputy CIOs, alongside Wendy Norris and Ben Samild, who oversee change and innovation and portfolio construction, respectively. The appointments coincide with the departure of CIO Sue Brake for family reasons. CEO Raphael Arndt assumes the CIO duties until a replacement is found

HARBOURVEST PARTNERS Warwick Mancini assumes responsibility for business development activities and client relationships in Australia as head of the newly opened Sydney office

KOREA INVESTMENT CORPORATION Hoon Lee is appointed CIO, having previously served as head of the Korean sovereign wealth fund’s investment strategy and innovation division

NORTHLEAF CAPITAL PARTNERS The Canada-based asset manager opens a Tokyo office to spearhead fundraising activity in Asia. Jeff Pentland, a founding partner at the firm who previously worked as a lawyer in Japan in the 1990s, relocates to Japan to lead the effort

ONTARIO TEACHERS’ PENSION PLAN (OTPP) Deepak Dara is named senior managing director and head of India, located in the newly opened Mumbai office. He joined the Canadian pension plan from Boston Consulting Group in 2020 as chief of staff to the CIO. Nicole Musicco, who previously served as head of Asia Pacific at OTPP, is named CIO of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS)

RAFFLES FAMILY OFFICE The Hong Kong-based multi-family office names Zann Kwan as CIO and managing partner of its digital assets unit. She is a co-founder of Bitcoin Exchange, which launched Asia's first public bitcoin machine in 2013

AC VENTURES Helen Wong, previously a China and Southeast Asia-focused partner at GGV Ventures and Qiming Venture Partners, joins the Indonesian GP as a senior advisor and venture partner

ADVANTAGE PARTNERS The Japanese GP hires Rahul Bhargava, previously of ADV Partners, as a partner and co-head of Asia ex-Japan, based in Singapore. He works alongside Emmett Thomas, the incumbent Asia ex-Japan head who is in Hong Kong

ALLEGRO FUNDS The Australian turnaround investor appoints Fay Bou as its third partner, serving alongside co-founders Adrian Loader and Chester Moynihan. He was previously a managing director. Jeffrey Largier and Johan Krynauw are promoted to managing director, while Jeremy Trouncer is elevated to investment director level

ANICUT CAPITAL The Indian early-stage investor recruits Dhruv Kapoor, formerly of Sistema Asia Fund and Helion Ventures, as a partner

APPWORKS The Taiwan-based VC investor and accelerator promotes Ching Tseng from associate to principal to lead a new web3-focused unit

ARBOR VENTURES Peter Sanborn, who formerly held several senior corporate development roles at PayPal, joins the Singapore-based global financial technology investor as a general partner

THE BLACKSTONE GROUP Mark Glengarry joins from Anchorage Capital Group as head of Asia Pacific origination for the firm’s credit business. It coincides with the appointment of Paulo Eapen as head of the regional credit operation

THE CARLYLE GROUP CEO Kewsong Lee resigns, with co-founder Bill Conway taking over in an interim capacity. Geoff Hutchinson, formerly of Morrison & Co. and Pacific Equity Partners (PEP), is recruited as a managing director and head of private equity for Australia and New Zealand. He replaces David Bluff, a partner who steps down after 14 years with the firm

CHIRATAE VENTURES Karthik Prabhakar, who joined as a senior analyst in 2011 and rose to the level of managing director and head of global fundraising, departs the firm to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions

CHRYSCAPITAL PARTNERS Sanjay Jalona, formerly CEO of the IT division of Indian engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro, joins as an operating partner based in the US

CVC CAPITAL PARTNERS Brett Sutton, a former partner at Affinity Equity Partners who was recruited to oversee the reestablishment of CVC’s Australia presence, leaves the firm. Richard Blackburn, a London-based senior managing director, moves to Australia to become country head. Martin Mok, a senior managing director based in Hong Kong, departs just over a year after his arrival from EQT

EAST VENTURES The Indonesia manager promotes Wai Kit Koh, one of the founders of Temasek Holdings’ Pavilion Capital, to managing partner. He joined the firm last year as a venture partner

EMERGEVEST A three-person team, including co-founder Roger Moh, moves to Hong Kong-based VI Asset Management to launch a private credit strategy. Moh is joined by Kit Mak and Sam Clothier

EURAZEO Albert Shyy, formerly head of Asia at Burda Principal Investments, the investment arm of European technology and media company Hubert Burda Media, joins the firm’s venture team in Singapore

EVERSTONE GROUP Atul Phull leaves the India and Southeast Asia-focused private equity firm after nine years across two stints and joins the private funds group at UBS as an executive director

FRANKLIN TEMPLETON Patrick Vizzone, previously international head of food, beverage and agribusiness and head of Hong Kong coverage at ANZ Banking Group, joins as a managing director and head of agri-food for its Asia Pacific alternatives group

GOLDMAN SACHS David Grayce, formerly of Pacific Equity Partners, joins as a Sydney-based managing director as part of efforts to expand the private investing business in Australia and New Zealand

GROWX VENTURES The Indian angel investors launches a new strategy under the name Merak Ventures, led by Sheetal Bahl and Manu Rikhye, both partners at the firm

GULF CAPITAL The Abu Dhabi-based manager opens a Singapore office and appoints Shantanu Mukerji, formerly of L Catterton Asia, as its first private equity managing director in Asia

JASHVIK CAPITAL Naresh Patawari departs TA Associates to launch the India-focused growth investment firm. He recruits Vijender Singh and Anil Matai, both healthcare industry veterans, as operating partners

KKR Paul Yang, the firm’s Greater China head, moves to an advisory role. His replacement is expected to be based full-time in mainland China. Yang joined the firm in 2017 from Taiwan-headquartered China Development Financial Corporation

LIGHTSPEED INDIA PARTNERS Shuvi Shrivastava, Pinn Lawjindakul, and Rahul Taneja are promoted to partner level and given responsibility for early-stage investments

THE LONGREACH GROUP The North Asia-focused mid-market buyout firm promotes Keitaro Tsuda, Sonny Chan, and Ken Law to partner, expanding its leadership group to six

MIRAE ASSET GLOBAL INVESTMENTS James McGrath is recruited from Australian venture capital firm OneVentures to work across multiple asset classes as a director for alternative investments

MONK’S HILL VENTURES Susli Lie, the first female start-up founder in Indonesia to receive backing from Y Combinator, joins as a partner. She will build out the firm’s Indonesia business

NAVIS CAPITAL PARTNERS Justin Ferrier, an ADM Capital alumnus who has spent the last five years helping to build BlackRock’s private credit business in Asia, joins to launch a private credit strategy

OPENSPACE VENTURES Jessica Huang Pouleur, who joined the Southeast Asia-focused venture capital firm last year to lead its growth equity strategy, is promoted to partner

PAG Timothy Zee, a Singapore-based managing director whose primary responsibilities include deal sourcing and business development, leaves the firm after 10 years. He plans to launch his own private investment business

PARTNERS GROUP Australia head Martin Scott takes on an expanded, investment-focused role as the firm looks to put more capital to work in Australia and New Zealand. Scott, who established the Australia office in 2008, had previously largely concentrated on fundraising. Andrew Kateiva joins from Bain Capital as head of institutional and managing director for client solutions in Australia, while Tatsuya Ochi, previously of KKR, becomes head of Japan private equity

PERMIRA Siddharth Narayan, who previously spent a decade at Warburg Pincus, joins as India head in the firm’s newly established Mumbai office. Meanwhile, the Tokyo office closes, with Ryo Fujii, a partner and country head, expected to leave the firm

QIMING VENTURE PARTNERS David Chu, formerly of Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA), joins the China VC firm as a partner with responsibility for fundraising and investor relations

QUADRANT PRIVATE EQUITY The Australian mid-market GP adds a fourth managing partner with the recruitment of Gareth Woodbridge from KKR

SCB 10X The VC arm of Thailand’s Siam Commercial Bank appoints Mukaya Panich as CEO in addition to her existing CIO role. She replaces Arak Sutivong who remains as deputy CEO. Pailin Vichakul, a principal at the firm, becomes a partner and head of strategic planning

SILVERHORN GROUP Bert Kwan, formerly of Northstar Group and Standard Chartered Private Equity, is recruited as head of private equity. It coincides with an expansion of the firm’s private equity strategy to include tech-based venture and growth capital investment

TA ASSOCIATES Hong Kong-based Andrew Tay is promoted from director to principal, having joined the firm in 2019 from Baring Private Equity Asia

TVS CAPITAL FUNDS Anuradha Ramachandran, previously an India-based director at Flourish Ventures, joins as a managing partner. She was originally part of the Omidyar Network team and spun out with the rest of the financial services team to form Flourish in 2019

WATERFALL ASSET MANAGEMENT The US alternatives manager, primarily active in private debt, establishes an Asia presence in Hong Kong and recruits Alistair Ho from Natixis Investment Managers to lead a regional buildout

WAVEMAKER PARTNERS The Singapore-based GP appoints Andy Hwang, an angel investor and start-up mentor transitioning into venture capital, as a general partner. He has more than 10 years of experience with the likes of Facebook, Google, and Stripe

WELLINGTON MANAGEMENT Xiaying Zhang, formerly head of Hamilton Lane’s Singapore office, is recruited to lead fundraising efforts for private investment strategies in Asia Pacific
