BURDA PRINCIPAL INVESTMENTS Albert Shyy, who was recruited from Gree Ventures in 2017 when the firm opened its Singapore office, is promoted from principal to managing director and head of Asia

CDC GROUP Rabi Rayamajhi becomes the development finance institution’s first country representative for Nepal, having previously worked as a development advisor at UK’s Department for International Development

FUTURE FUND Raphael Arndt is promoted from CIO to CEO, replacing David Neal, who departs for IFM Investors. Ardnt became CIO in 2014 when Neal stepped up to CEO. Sue Brake, who joined the organization in 2019 as deputy CIO covering economic and capital market analysis, emerging markets, dynamic beta management, and portfolio construction, becomes CIO. Kelvin Mak, a senior investment director in Navis Capital Partners’ Sydney office, is recruited as a director in the private equity team

GOVERNMENT PENSION INVESTMENT FUND Masataka Miyazono becomes president with the departure of Norihiro Takahashi, while Eiji Ueda, formerly co-head of securities for Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific, replaces Hiromichi Mizuno as CIO. Miyazono and Takahashi are both Norinchukin Bank alumni

HAMILTON LANE Xiaying Zhang, the firm’s business development lead for Southeast Asia, becomes head of a newly launched Singapore office. She is joined by Jensen Tam, who is responsible for relationship management

HARBOURVEST PARTNERS Tadasu Matsuo, head of alternative investments at Japan Post Insurance, joins HarbourVest Partners as a managing director where he co-leads Japan coverage alongside Tatsuya Kubo

KOREA INVESTMENT CORPORATION Jong-ho Kim from is promoted from head of private equity to deputy CIO with a brief to lead its alternative investment group. His predecessor, Sooyong Jung, moves to a compliance officer role

MANULIFE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT Liam Coppinger, who leads private equity investment activity in Asia Pacific, is promoted to senior managing director. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2016 as a managing director

MCP ASSET MANAGEMENT Kazushige Kobayashi joins the firm from Capital Dynamics, where he spent nearly 10 years and latterly served as head of Asia primaries coverage. Having secured a fund-of-funds mandate from the Tokyo government, Kobayashi starts recruiting a dedicated team to manage it. Hires include Hideaki Fukazawa, formerly chairman of Tokio Marine Capital, who becomes a senior advisor

ONTARIO MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM David Payne, who set up the Singapore office in 2018 and leads Asia private equity coverage, departs the firm. Prateek Maheshwari relocates from London to Singapore to lead regional infrastructure coverage, replacing Bruce Crane, who takes up a similar role with Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan

QIC Marcus Simpson steps down as head of global private capital, ending a 15-year association with the firm. He plans to take on independent advisory roles, including working with institutional investors that want to build or rebuild private equity programs

STEPSTONE GROUP Suzanne Tavill, a Sydney-based managing director, is elevated to partner. Already responsible for carrying out due diligence on primary, secondary and co-investment opportunities in Australia and the wider Asian region, Tavill’s remit expanded in 2019 when she became global head of responsible investing

TIKEHAU CAPITAL Neil Parekh, Asia lead at National Australia Bank, joins as regional head

UNIGESTION Eric Marchand, head of Asia Pacific private equity, leaves the firm after eight years and takes on a senior advisor role at placement agent Campbell Lutyens

AC VENTURES The Indonesian VC firm is formed through the merger of Convergence Ventures and Agaeti Ventures. Adrian Li of Convergence and Michael Soerijadji of Agaeti become managing partners, with Pandu Sjahrir, co-founder of Agaeti with Soerijadji, named as a founding partner. Donald Wihardja, who set up Convergence with Li, moves to MDI Ventures, the corporate VC arm of Telkom Indonesia, as CEO

ADV PARTNERS Rahul Bhargava joins the mid-market pan-Asian GP as a managing director to lead coverage of Southeast Asia. He previously worked on credit and special situations investments in Southeast Asia for KKR

ADVANTAGE PARTNERS Shinichiro Kita formally becomes head of the Japan buyout team, having run the strategy on a day-to-day basis with Hideo Nagatsuyu for several. The move sees co-founders Richard Folsom and Taisuke Sasanuma to cede some of their responsibilities, though they remain investment committee members and oversee general governance of the firm. Nagatsuyu takes on a hybrid role, devoting 50% of his time to the private solutions strategy, previously known as Inflexion

AFFINITY EQUITY PARTNERS Sam Johnson, a partner who has been with the firm since 2005, becomes Australia head in place of the departing Brett Sutton

ALBAMEN CAPITAL PARTNERS Raymond Fung establishes the firm after spinning out from China clean energy investor JIDA Capital, which he founded in 2012 and is now winddown mode. Conrad Yan, previously a partner at placement agent Campbell Lutyens, joins as Fung’s co-managing partner

BDA CAPITAL PARTNERS Bert Kwan leaves his role as a managing director with Southeast Asia-focused Northstar Group to launch an investment platform with M&A advisory firm BDA Partners that will initially concentrate on Vietnam

BLACKBIRD VENTURES Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder of Atlassian and a longstanding LP, becomes chairman of the Australia-based venture capital firm

THE BLACKSTONE GROUP Amit Jain, who joined the India private equity team in 2010, is elevated to partner and senior managing director

THE CARLYLE GROUP Glenn Youngkin steps down as co-CEO, leaving Kewsong Lee to continue in the role alone. Takaomi Tomioka and Hiroyuki Otsuka are named deputy heads of the Japan buyout team, reporting to country head Kazuhiro Yamada. Tomioka is responsible for succession deals and mid-cap buyouts, while Otsuka covers corporate carve-outs and large-cap buyouts. Reiji Terasaka rejoins the firm as a managing director with the Japan team after a seven-year stint in various corporate roles. Aditya Puri, previously CEO of India’s HDFC Bank, becomes a senior advisor in Asia

CDIB CAPITAL Stephen Li, previously a managing director at Ping An Trust Private Equity Capital, is hired as a managing director responsible for China

CINVEN Joseph Wan, previously a Hong Kong-based operating partner for European private equity firm, leaves to establish a multi-family office called Anchor Strategic Partners

CPE CAPITAL Shane Gong, who led the Australia-based GP’s Singapore office, leaves to head up Evercore’s private equity secondaries business in Asia

CVC CAPITAL PARTNERS James Redmayne, a 14-year veteran of the firm who spent the last seven years in Asia as a senior managing director, leaves to join London-based Searchlight Capital Partners

EAST VENTURES Triawan Munaf, a former member of President Joko Widodo’s cabinet, is appointed a venture advisor. He is also president commissioner of airline Garuda Indonesia

EIGHT ROADS Xin Liu is recruited from Greater Pacific Capital as a partner in the China team, while Shirish Belapure, previously a managing director at Zydus Hospira Oncology, joins as a venture partner in the India office

EQT The firm opens an Australia and New Zealand-focused office in Sydney led by Ken Wong, a managing director who previously headed Australasian activities from Singapore

EVERSTONE GROUP Atul Phull, who left the firm in 2018 after a seven-year stint, rejoins as a Singapore-based managing director with a brief to work on strategic initiatives across business development and investor relations

FILTER CAPITAL Sumit Sinha joins as a co-founder and managing partner, alongside Nitin Nayer, who founded the Indian private equity firm in 2018. Sinha and Nayer previously worked together at Warburg Pincus, with the former subsequently moving to Multiples Alternative Asset Management

GENERAL ATLANTIC Lefei Sun, who helped establish the firm’s healthcare and life sciences business in China two years ago and remains in charge of it, is promoted to managing director. Hong Kong-based Roger Gao, who focuses on technology and financial services, becomes a principal

IFM INVESTORS Brett Himbury steps down after a decade as CEO and is replaced by Future Fund’s David Neal

IL&FS INVESTMENT MANAGERS Krishna Kumar Gangadharan resigns as CEO of the India-based GP after a three-year tenure and is replaced by Manoj Borkar, the existing CFO

KKR Lucian Schöenefelder is named head of Asia technology investments in Asia, having performed a similar role for the firm in Europe. Gaurav Trehan is brought in from TPG Capital – where he spent 16 years, rising to partner – to head up India private equity operations, while Hidekazu Harada, previously co-head of Japan investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, becomes a managing director in the Japan private equity team. Chee-Wei Wong is recruited from US-based Tailwind Capital as head of global impact for Asia. He previously spent nine years at EQT, working on deals in Southeast Asia and Australia. Nicholas Hyde, formerly of IFM Investors, joins as a managing director in the client partner group with responsibility for fundraising in Australia and New Zealand

L CATTERTON Scott Chen, previously a partner at TPG Capital, joins as co-managing partner for Asia alongside Chinta Bhagat. The consumer-focused private equity firm also hires Saurabh Mehta, formerly a partner at India’s CX Partners, as a principal

LIGHTSPEED VENTURE PARTNERS Akshay Bhushan, a partner with the firm’s India affiliate, relocates to Singapore as head of Southeast Asia. He is joined by Bejul Somaia, another Lightspeed India partner, who will work across both markets

LOYAL VALLEY CAPITAL Brian Chi, who previously spent more than a decade making China investments for The Blackstone Group and Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia, joins as a partner

MEKONG CAPITAL Nguyen Thi Minh Giang is promoted to partner with the Vietnam-focused GP, with responsibility for talent and culture. She joined in 2010 as a human resources officer

OPENSPACE VENTURES Jessica Huang Pouleur, formerly of Providence Equity Partners and latterly head of Asia M&A for The Walt Disney Company, joins as an executive director responsible for the firm’s new growth stage fund

OTV The Israeli VC firm opens a China office and appoints Jose Antonio Urrutia Rivas, previously an Asian markets developer for Latin American investor LarrainVial, as regional head

PRIME VENTURE PARTNERS Ashish Gupta, co-founder of Helion Ventures, joins the Indian VC firm as a partner emeritus

QIMING VENTURE PARTNERS Grace Lee takes on the role of COO in addition to her existing partner and CFO duties. Alex Zhou, an executive director on the technology, media and telecom (TMT) team, is promoted to partner, while Kan Chen and Nan Chen, members of the TMT and healthcare teams, respectively, become executive directors

SISTEMA ASIA CAPITAL Edward Tay joins the India and Southeast Asia-focused corporate VC arm of the eponymous Russian conglomerate as CEO. He previously held senior roles at British Telecom, IBM, Keppel Communications, and Hewlett Packard

SOFTBANK VISION FUND Daisy Cai joins as a partner, having previously held the same role at China growth capital investor Gaocheng Capital
