Khosla Ventures appoints Lightspeed principal as partner
Silicon Valley-based Khosla Ventures has appointed Lightspeed Venture Partners Principal Andrew Chung as partner, charged with brokering cleantech and IT investments.
At Lightspeed, which counts China and India among its key investment markets, Chung helped develop the firm's cleantech business. Prior to Lightspeed, he worked at Bain Capital and TL Ventures, where he was credited with supporting the firms' leveraged buyout and VC investments in software, semiconductors and healthcare. He has additionally been a strategy consultant with Bain & Company in Greater China.
According to Khosla, Chung will be its sixth investment partner, which includes founder Vinod Khosla, who launched the firm in 2004. He was a general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Buyers and was founder of Sun Microsystems.
In 2009, the firm completed fundraising for two cleantech funds, raising $1.1 billion. Those vehicles were reportedly gained notable financial backers including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. And earlier this year, Khosla received $15 million from Azim Premji, the Chairman of Indian technology company Wipro.
