VSG to facilitate LP direct investment in India
VSG Capital Advisors, a new investment bank, has been established in India to advise on domestic and cross-border deals. The move comes at a time when pension funds and sovereign wealth funds are tipped to raise their direct investment allocations to India.
According Muneesh Chawla, managing director of Mumbai-based private equity firm Blue River Capital Advisors, institutional investors are also seeking to invest not just in equity but across different such as capital markets, debt and infrastructure bonds.
Set up by industry veteran Vikram Gandhi, VSG will help facilitate such deals, also working with high-net-worth individuals. Gandhi, a former vice-chairman at Credit Suisse and co-head of the global financial institutions group, plans for the Delhi-based bank to focus on investments in the infrastructure, real estate and social sectors and on large private sector projects.
"The intention was to leverage my global network and capital markets experience to act as a bridge between institutional investors, high net worth individuals, and developmental capital and the investment opportunities that exist in India and Asia," Gandhi told LiveMint. "The opportunity in India today as compared to 10 years ago has gone up tremendously and hence many global sovereign wealth and pension funds are looking to increase their allocation towards the country."
Prior to Credit Suisse, Gandhi spent 15 years at Morgan Stanley , occupying roles which included global head of institutional strategy, head of the financial institutions group and president and country head of the company's Indian arm.
