VCs take part in $2.1m round for Japan's Innova

Nippon Venture Capital, Draper Nexus and strategic investor Salesforce.com have together invested JPY220 million ($2.1 million) on Tokyo-based search engine optimization (SEO) and content marketing agency Innova.

Launched in 2011, Innova provides content marketing solutions which help companies market their products and services to consumers by assisting them in the management of owned media websites and by publishing SEO-optimized content and articles. As of April, the company claims to have 72 clients including big Japanese firms such as Yahoo Japan, Rakuten, Sony, DeNA, Opt, and Septeni Holdings.

Through its partnership with Salesforce, Innova aims to attract more clients, while Salesforce will add Innovas' marketing solutions to its customer relationship management (CRM) platform.

This is not the first time Salesforce has dabbled in Japanese venture capital. In October last year it invested an undisclosed sum in Sansan, the start-up behind business card-based customer relationship management (CRM) solution Eight.
