Aberdeen launches real estate fund-of-funds in Asia
Singapore-based Aberdeen Asset Management Asia has launched a property fund-of-funds that is expected to raise up to $400million. It will help boost real estate exposure among institutional investors.
The fund is said to be targeting annual returns of 13-17% and will focus on investment opportunities in Japan, Singapore, China, India and Australia.
Hugh Young, Aberdeen Asia Managing Director said in a statement, "Having built a substantial specialist equity and now a growing fixed income business over the past 20 years, property stands as the next asset class that is ripe for expansion."
Puay Ju Kang, who heads up Aberdeen's property fund for Asia Pacific, noted that the fund's principal client base is likely to be European institutional investors that are keen on Asian real estate but don't have a direct presence in the region.
Aberdeen Asia has approximately $95 billion in assets under management. In May, it set up a $400 million joint venture with GE Capital Real Estate that will invest in residential property in Tokyo.
