Japan design firm Goodpatch raises $3.5m
Goodpatch, a Japan-based user interface design company that focuses on digital products, has received a Series A round of funding worth JPY400 million ($3.5 million).
According to an announcement, participating investors include Salesforce Ventures, SMBC Venture Capital and SBI Investment, which are expected to offer development support in the financial technology sector. DG Incubate, which provided $880,000 in seeding funding in 2013, re-upped for this round.
The new capital will be used to accelerate growth of the company's prototyping tool for design teams - known as Prott - and to establish sales offices in Taiwan and North America. It is also expected to drive Goodpatch's push into the European market, where the company already manages a studio in Berlin.
As the investment arm of Digital Garage Group, DG focuses on internet-related services and technologies at all stages, with a view to facilitating synergies between start-ups and DG group companies. Last year it led a $5 million Series B round for online ticketing platform Peatix.
