Mayfield leads Series C for Indian education tech start-up
Mayfield has led a $15 million Series C round for Indian IT certification start-up Simplilearn, with participation from previous investors Kalaari Capital and Helion Venture Partners.
This latest round brings the total raised by the company to $27 million, according to a release. It will use the funds to expand course coverage and enter international markets, particularly the US.
With India's tech sector growing rapidly, many Indians need IT certifications to stay competitive in the job market. Simplilearn, founded in 2010, offers both online and in-person training courses, and claims to have helped more than 400,000 people gain certification in over 40 globally recognized accreditations.
The company also plans to offer certifications for specific vendors, including Microsoft, Cisco and Salesforce.
Mayfield is currently investing out of its Mayfield India II fund, a $108 million vehicle launched in 2013. The firm targets companies in the consumer, infrastructure and tech sectors. Recent investments include a $3 million Series B round with Kalaari for travel planning site TripHobo.
Kalaari and Helion co-led Simplilearn's 2013 Series B round, which raised $10 million. Kalaari also participated in the company's $2.6 million Series A round in 2012.
