Former Sony CEO Nobuyuki Idei joins Fenox
Former Sony CEO Nobuyuki Idei has joined Silicon Valley-based VC firm Fenox Venture Capital as a board advisor.
Idei is currently the founder and CEO of Quantum Leaps Corporation, a Tokyo-based consultancy that offers advisory services for Japanese start-ups.
According a release, the appointment - and the cooperation between Fenox and Quantum it will bring - is intended to help Japanese start-ups expand into global markets. It is also intended to give large Japanese corporations access Silicon Valley companies and technology.
"Japanese corporations need to hone in on the technological trends, and tap into the best innovations from Silicon Valley to increase their product lineup on the backdrop of falling R&D budgets," said Idei in a statement. "Fenox has been already been helping Japanese corporations in this manner over the last few years. Through Quantum's network, more Japanese corporations will benefit from Fenox's top-notch ability to act as the bridge to new markets."
Fenox focuses on investments in the internet, mobile, social, cloud and emerging technology businesses and has operations both in Japan and the rest of Asia.
The firm has backed six Japanese start-ups to date. Its most recent transaction was a $10 million round for Terra Motors Corp, a manufacturer of two- and three-wheeler electric vehicles, alongside Mizuho Capital.
