Hong Kong storage start-up Boxful raises $6.6m
Hong Kong-based "valet storage" start-up Boxful has raised a HK$51.1 million ($6.6 million) Series A round from a consortium including Arocrest Capital, Lonsdale Capital, and several real estate investors.
Boxful offers climate-controlled storage facilities with free door-to-door pick-up and delivery. A website and mobile app allows customers to keep track of their stored goods and arrange delivery orders.
Boxful co-founder Norman Cheung told The South China Morning Post that the company plans to expand overseas, though this may not begin until next year.
In Hong Kong several competing start-ups offer similar services to Boxful, such as Spacebox, Klosit, GoNLive and Stuffgenie. The internet-enabled storage sector has largely emerged in the last year, enabled by cloud computing technology and fuelled by limited storage space in the city's cramped apartments.
Arocrest Capital, founded in 2013, is a Hong Kong-based investment company. It targets mid-market and family businesses in emerging markets in Southeast Asia. Lonsdale Capital is a London-based investment firm that focuses on small-scale companies. Most of its investments have been done in the UK and Europe.
