Global Brain, 500 Startups lead Series C for couples app
VCNC, the Korean start-up behind couples app Between, has raised a Series C round of investment from Japanese venture capital firm Global Brain and US investor 500 Startups.
This adds to an earlier investment made by Japanese game developer DeNA in February.
The size of the round was not disclosed. However, the business is known to have received over $3.5 million across two previous institutional rounds.
VCNC first raised around KRW1 billion ($87,000) from SoftBank Venture Korea in December 2011. Softbank then returned for a follow-on investment of KRW3 billion in early 2013 alongside a consortium of investors including e27, Stonebridge Capital, KTB Network and Capstone Partners.
Between, which functions like a standard social networking app but limits the exchange to just two people, currently claims around 7.3 million users globally. The majority are based in Japan and Korea, while Southeast Asiaand Taiwan account for around 7% and 4% of the user base, respectively.
According to a release, this latest round of funding will be used to strengthen the start-up's promotional activities in Japan and roll out a variety of new services on the existing platform.
