Chrysalix, HKSTP form clean energy partnership
Canadian VC firm Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital has partnered with the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) to support cleantech start-ups.
According to a statement, the new venture was set up through the HKSTP Venture Capital Partnership Programme, a platform run by HKSTP that helps connect local tech start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with global VC funds. The program currently has 30 VC partners, and has helped direct more than $142 million worth of investment.
Chrysalix intends for the partnership to stimulate VC investment and development of a tech ecosystem across the broader Asia region. Founded in 2001, the GP formed the Chrysalix Global Network in 2012 to target cleantech investment opportunities in North America, Asia and Europe.
"The opportunities for creating business advantages through innovation are accelerating exponentially," said Chrysalix President and CEO Dr. Wal van Lierop. "In my recent travels to Asia, I am personally totally intrigued by the eagerness of many large companies and entrepreneurs there to build the cleaner future we all aspire while at the same time developing new industries and stronger economies."
HKSTP, founded in 2001, is Hong Kong's largest technology incubator; it provides mentorship, working space and access to funding opportunities. Its incubatees include delivery start-up Lalamove, which received a $10 million Series A round in January and a further $10 million in bridge funding in September.
