
WI Harper appoints former Japanese Minister to board
Chinese venture capital firm WI Harper Group has appointed former Japanese Minister of State for Financial Services Heizo Takenaka to its advisory board.
Takenaka held his political post in 2002 after being selected by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. He also served as Japan's Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications from 2005 to 2006. He serves on the advisory boards and committees of organizations including the Japan Center for Economic Research, Academyhills and the Pasona Group, and was named to the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum in 2007.
WI Harper's board is led by Innovation Works' founder Kai-Fu Lee, who is the former president of Google Greater China. Takenaka is slated to advise the firm on global financial trends, emerging technologies and international business opportunities, WI Harper released. The firm focuses on expansion and growth-stage investments and claims 100 investments in the technology, clean technology and health care sectors. WI Harper manages $500 million in capital, and has offices in Beijing, Taipei and San Francisco.
