Trustbridge, Foxconn, JD.com back Chinese tablet maker
Trustbridge Partners has led a RMB100 million ($16 million) Series A round of funding for Jide Technology, a Chinese manufacturer of tablets running the Android operating system (OS).
Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group and Chinese online retailer JD.com also participated.
The start-up was founded by Jeremy Zhou, a former Google software engineer. The firm develops a tablet product known as Remix, which has an 11.6-inch high-definition touchscreen and a magnetically connected with keyboard. With a self-developed Android Remix OS, Jide claims to provide a laptop experience for tablet users.
The firm raised over $210,000 from crowdfunding platform Kickstarter last month.
Foxconn manufactured Remix's prototype for free, while JD.com allows Jide to sell tablets on its platform and offline shops. The new funding will be used for product development, marketing and supply chain assistance, Jide told a press conference.
Shanghai-based Trustbridge was founded by several tech sector veterans, including Donglei Zhou, formerly a senior executive at Shanda Interactive Entertainment. The firm focuses on the new materials, new energy, consumer, new media and technology sectors.
