Microsoft consolidates India start-up programs
Microsoft India has brought its start-up offerings under a single platform – known as Microsoft Ventures – following a similar restructuring at group level. Existing VC investment programs including BizSpark, Bing Fund and Accelerator will now operate as one.
A similar transition was announced earlier this month for Microsoft's China operations.
Mukund Mohan, CEO-in-residence at the Accelerator program, will lead the consolidated Microsoft Ventures in India. Ravi Narayan, a serial entrepreneur and head of Mentor Partners, will assume responsibility for Accelerator, while Kattayil Rajinish Menon will drive engagement with accelerators and incubators as part of BizSpark.
"Through this coordinated effort, we will now engage with entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey from ideation to maturity and support them with compelling offerings," said Mohan. "Our community evangelism program will provide entrepreneurs easy access to technology and resources, so that they can focus on exploring ideas."
BizSpark allows a wide range of start-ups access to Microsoft tools and technologies, including Windows and Office, Visual Studio and Windows Azure. Selected applicants then get access to business mentors, technical and design experts, development tools and key resources under the Accelerator program, with a view to helping them turn business plans into businesses.
Bing Fund is the third arm of the accelerator, providing capital for entrepreneurs to expand their nascent businesses.
