Jafco Asia leads Series B round for US games developer
Japanese venture capital investor Jafco Asia has led a Series B round of funding for US games developer Playnery. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
Set up in 2011, Silicon Valley-based Playnery develops 3D optimized social games and game engine technology needed to develop 3D games across platforms, including mobile.
The company is in the process of developing its first game Mother of Myth - an action role-playing game - which will be available on mobile platforms in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China.
According to a release, the financing will be used to accelerate game development with a view to publishing Mother of Myth next year. Prior to this latest round, the company received $3.8 million in Series A funding from Softbank Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures and Stonebridge Capital.
"Playnery has a strong team of industry veterans who had previously worked on PC online games and successfully serviced them in the global market," said Kenny Nam, associate director of Jafco Investment. "We were impressed with their in-house game engine technology which we believe that it will soon take the quality of mobile games to the next level."
