Singapore's Sova raises $3m seed round
Sova, a Singapore start-up that provides a cloud-based WordPress hosting service, has secured $3 million in seed funding from undisclosed investors.
Launched in December by Japanese engineer Miyako Itonaga and serial entrepreneur Takashi Fujimoto, Sova focuses exclusively on the blogging platform WordPress, which enables it to save on engineering costs.
Most of Sova's users come from Japan and Southeast Asia and its cloud facilities are located in Singapore and Osaka, Japan. Due to WordPress cloud hosting being such a niche space, the company has only one competitor: WP Engine in the US. In the Asian market, however, no such competition exists.
The service is available in English and Japanese, but there are plans to add Vietnamese, Chinese, Indonesian, and Spanish to its language options next month
According to The Bridge, the funding will be used to set up another facility in Palo Alto to prepare for Sova's expansion into the US. It will also add user support offices in Palo Alto and Indonesia, as well as in Singapore and Osaka.
