RIT Capital, Jacob Rothschild launch $750m China outbound fund
RIT Capital Partners, with British investor Jacob Rothschild, is to launch a $750 million private equity fund targeting Chinese investors looking to invest in overseas deals and give them “access to international private equity for the first time.”
According to a statement, J. Rothschild Creat Partners, the newly established venture, will be backed by RIT Capital Partners, the Creat Group and Quercus Ventures, and will be chaired by Lord Jacob Rothschild. "The first fund to be launched will be a private equity fund which will take significant unleveraged minority stakes in international companies (ex Japan), across a wide range of sectors where the West has particular expertise," the parties said in the statement. "Sectors on which the fund will initially focus include technology and clean tech, the green economy, healthcare, natural resources, and luxury goods."
RIT and Creat will both commit seed capital toward the vehicle's $750 million corpus, and remaining investors will largely come from the newly launched China International Chamber of Commerce for the Private Sector.
The news comes weeks after A Capital also launched an outbound fund for Chinese investors, with an RMB3 billion ($456 million) target. That fund will predominantly invest in European opportunities.
