Australia’s Looop raises $2m
Looop, an Australian online learning platform for employees, has raised a $2 million seed round from an undisclosed education investor.
The funding will be used to expand into new markets including the UK and the US, as well as to improve its mobile app technology.
The start-up provides a mobile-friendly platform for small- to medium-sized businesses to deliver online training programs to their employees. The firm also offers mobile tools for tracking and assessment, with the aim of expanding into the formerly desktop-dependant corporate online learning market.
Despite there being a number of other firms operating in this space globally - including US-based MOOCS, Coursera and Udacity, and European players Iversity and Eliademy - Ben Muzzell, Looop's co-founder, toldhe thought Looop's mobile capabilities set it apart.
"I genuinely don't feel there are any other businesses directly competing with us in the same respect and this is because they haven't been able to convert their training programs to mobile devices effectively, as of yet," he said.
