Akin Gump launches office in Hong Kong
International law firm Akin Gump is opening a Hong Kong office with two major hires as it looks to further expand its presence across Asia.
Gregory Puff, who joins the company from Shearman & Sterling, will head the Hong Kong office and lead the firm's Asia practice. He will be joined by Andrew Abernethy, an M&A and investment funds lawyer from Norton Rose.
As the global investment activities have been heavily geared towards emerging markets, Akin Gump said their clients are actively expanding their business across Asia.
In keeping with the company's existing business in Beijing, the Hong Kong office will provide legal services concerning private equity, funds, corporate and capital markets, as well as Asian trade and policy practices. The move will also help Akin Gump to further expand into South and Southeast Asia.
R. Bruce McLean, chairman of Akin Gump, commented in a statement: "The launch of Akin Gump's Hong Kong office and Greg and Andrew's arrival will enhance our ability to deliver corporate and capital markets work, as well as counsel in private equity and private equity investment funds transactions."
Puff added Akin Gump will offer legal services to companies that pursue global integrated understanding and experience - particularly in the areas of telecoms, energy and funds.
