Tech-focused US M&A advisor sets up in Seoul
J. Moore Partners, a technology-focused investment bank based in San Francisco, has opened an office in Seoul as part of plans to expand into Asia. It claims to be the first US technology M&A advisory firm to establish a presence in the city.
"We have several clients based in Asia who appreciate our support on the ground, and we are able to act as a bridge to Silicon Valley with our strong network of investors and corporate strategic partners," said Jim Moore, the company's managing partner and founder.
According to the Cologne Institute for Economic Research, South Korea ranks third in the world in terms of technology innovation. The Next Web claims that 67% of the Korean population owns a smart phone.
Korean technology investment expert David Oh has been appointed as managing director to lead efforts in the region. Before joining the company he was CEO and managing partner of IDG Ventures in Korea where he managed a $100m fund focused on early stage companies. He was responsible for investments in start-ups in the mobile, internet, software and gaming sectors.
Prior to joining IDG, Oh was managing director of North Asia at International Data Corporation, a US market intelligence firm specializing in information and communication technology.
"The market is underserved, and I look forward to bringing the experience of Silicon Valley to this place of budding innovation," said Oh. "We are particularly interested in opportunities in the mobile and gaming sectors."
