Global Brain backs Japan 3D printing start-up
Global Brain has committed JPY400 million ($3.3 million) to Japan-based Kabuku, which runs the 3D printing service Rinkak.
This investment will account for the majority of a funding round of up to JPY750 million, Kabuku said in a statement. According to The Bridge, the new capital will go toward a cloud-based production management system for 3D printing factories and expanding partnerships with third-party 3D printing manufacturing services.
Set up in January 2013, Rinkak is an online marketplace where users can buy and sell 3D-printed products, smart phone accessories, character figurines, and medical and dental products. The marketplace also allows artists and designers to collaborate online and gives them access to 3D printers.
In addition to relying on the typical plastic material used by many 3D printers, Rinkak is able to process orders in ceramics, metals and rubber.
Kabuku previously received $2 million in Series A funding from CyberAgent Ventures. Nissay Capital and Fuji Startup Ventures also participated in the round.
