India's NSR promotes Arvind Malhan to partner
Indian growth-stage private equity firm New Silk Route (NSR) has promoted Arvind Malhan to partner.
Malhan joined NSR in 2010 as a principal, and has led the firm's investments in VRL Logistics and Varsity Education Management. He has also managed investments in Cafe Coffee Day, Ortel Communications, Nectar Lifesciences and 9x Media.
Three of the companies that Malhan was involved with at NSR have launched IPOs in India, with NSR securing partial exits in all three cases. Ortel filed for its offering in 2013, with VRL following in December 2014; both companies listed earlier this year. Cafe Coffee Day set terms last month to raise $177 million.
Prior to NSR, Malhan served as executive director at J.P. Morgan Private Capital Asia, and also as director and founder of the India office at TVG Capital Partners. Before that he worked in the US as a principal at New Enterprise Associates, where he focused on IT and telecom investments.
NSR has committed about $1 billion across 16 investments in India, and seeks opportunities in the manufacturing, infrastructure, telecom, financial services and consumer services sectors.
