Nexus leads $26m Series A round for TalentSprint
Nexus Venture Partners has invested $26 million as part of a Series A round for TalentSprint, an Indian company that helps graduates and young professionals find jobs.
Co-founded by Madhumurty Ronanki, Santanu Paul, and J.A. Chowdary, TalentSprint aims to turn 500,000 graduates into highly-skilled professionals by 2020. Its services are largely based on its technology platform, iPEARL.
The new funding will support the company in its goal of integrating 100 colleges in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka into the TalentSprint College Network.
"We are very pleased to back TalentSprint's strong management team and its innovative model that brings skill development and industry expertise to colleges and youth through smart use of technology," said Nexus Managing Director Anup Gupta, who joins the TalentSprint board. "The goal is to enable up-skilling on a large scale without compromising on quality."
Santanu Paul, CEO and managing director at TalentSprint, added that the number of higher education places in India have tripled since 2000, and the same increase is expected between now and 2020. Despite this, infusing quality into the higher education system has become a challenge.
Last August it was announced that Nexus would begin fundraising for a third fund worth $250 million early this year.
The VC firm, which has $300 million in assets under management, invests in early and growth-stage companies, with deal sizes reaching up to $10 million. It has offices in India and Silicon Valley, and predominantly invests in companies that are wholly or substantially located in India.
