Indian e-commerce site Hopscotch secures $13m
Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin has led a $13 million Series C round of funding for a technological expansion of Hopscotch, an online retailer of baby and children’s products targeting Indian mothers.
As a new member of the Hopscotch board, Saverin is expected to provide important insights in business development and was quoted by TechCrunch affirming his confidence in the company's potential to be a major player in this commercial space.
"Hopscotch is taking a customer focused approach and as a result seeing record high customer retention," he said. "I believe that if they continue serving moms with an exceptional selection, coupled with a delightful tailor-made experience, Hopscotch will become the destination for moms in India."
Severin and Singapore-based Velos Partners committed $11 million in Series B funding to the company last year. The same investors also recently provided a $15 million funding round for Indonesia-based Orami, another mother-and-baby e-commerce player.
Hopscotch was founded in 2012 by Rahul Anand and Lisa Kennedy, both of whom previously worked at Diapers.com, a US-based e-commerce site specializing in babywear. It offers products ranging from children's apparel and footwear to accessories and kitchen supplies for mothers.
India's children's apparel market is estimated to be worth $14 billion.
