Sequoia, Mayfield lead $16m investment in India’s Knowlarity
Sequoia Capital and Mayfield Advisors have invested $16 million in India's Knowlarity Communications, a cloud telephony and call handling solutions provider.
Set up in 2009 and headquartered in Gurgoan in Northern India, Knowlarity claims to provide a cloud communication solution that eliminates the need for businesses to spend money on expensive communication hardware.
This is the second time Sequoia has invested in the company. In January 2012, it invested INR350 million in the company. The company - which already counts Zomato, Via.com, Druva and Zipal among its clients - will use the investment to expand overseas and enter markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
"Knowlarity is solving a big pain-point for business, allowing them to communicate faster, cheaper and better," Vikram Godse, managing director with Mayfield India, told LiveMint.
Knowlarity will use the funds to go global and tap markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The company reported INR160 million in revenue in the 2014 financial year and claims to have more than 6500 small businesses currently using its service, with around 500 new users every month.
