
Milestone Capital's Ved Prakash Arya killed in accident
Ved Prakash Arya, managing director and CEO of Milestone Capital Advisors, died in an accident Thursday near his Mumbai home. He was 42 and is survived by his wife and two children.
According to reports, Arya was struck by a falling coconut tree - downed by high winds - while on a morning walk at a municipal garden in Versova with his wife, who escaped serious injury. He died on his way to the hospital.
Arya set up Milestone Capital in 2007 after leading a successful career in retail. At Milestone, he helped to launch four real estate funds and broker joint venture partnerships with domestic private equity players IL&FS Investment Managers and Religare Venture Capital and sustainability network J. Leon Group. During his time with the firm, Milestone grew to become one of India's most prominent domestic funds, with $1 billion in assets under management.
Prior to his time at Milestone, Arya held the roles of COO and director of Pantaloon Retail, which manages retail outlets in India for both the value and lifestyle segment. He was credited with launching Pantaloon's two real estate venture funds, worth $435 million. He was also CEO of Globus Store and spent 10 years at Rajan Raheja Group.
Arya's years of experience also earned him the role of founder and director of the Retailers Association of India.
