Terra Firma to open Beijing office
European private equity firm Terra Firma has received the regulatory green light to open a representative office in Beijing, marking its foray into Asia.
Aside from being Terra Firma's first bureau in the region, Baijing will be its fourth office globally after its Guernsey and Frankfurt offices and London headquarters.
According to Dow Jones, the Beijing office will be led by Bo Shi, who joined the firm in 2008 from Citigroup in New York.
Guy Hands, chairman and chief investment officer of Terra Firma, publicly said at the firm's 2011 annual conference that Terra Firma has confidence in China's growth, and hopes the market's momentum will translate into opportunities for Terra Firm and its portfolio companies. He added that the firm hopes to find investment and M&A opportunities in the country, as well as potential for outbound investment through partnerships with domestic companies.
In terms of Terra Firma's wider Asia Pacific activities, in 2009, the firm took a 90% stake in the second-largest beef producer in Australia, Consolidated Pastoral Company.
Launched in 1994, Terra Firma manages three funds and claims more than $30 billion of AUM globally.
