Helion invests $3m in India mobile services player Doormint
Helion Venture Partners has committed $3 million in a Series A round of investment to Blackcotton Solutions, the start-up behind Indian mobile home services platform Doormint. Kalaari Capital also took part in the round.
Set up this year, Mumbai-based Doormint provides a mobile app that allows users to request a variety of home services including: plumbers, appliance repair, carpenters, electricians, pest control, cleaning, and laundry services.
The company will use this injection of capital to expand its services to other cities, including Gurgaon, Delhi and Bengaluru, over the next three months. It will add extra staff to its marketing, technology and operations teams. Currently Doormint claims to have a network of 400-500 service providers.
"On-demand home services is a fast-growing market in urban areas where tech savvy consumers seek time-saving resources to meet their household needs of maintenance and repair," Ritesh Banglani, a partner with Helion, said in a statement.
Banglani he added that Doormint seeks to differentiate itself by acting like a branded service and taking responsibility for service delivery and customer satisfaction. The company also seeks to set itself apart by offering upfront pricing and a "one-touch home service" to eliminate phone calls.
Doormint estimates that India's home services market is worth $15-20 billion, but it is not the only platform to spot the opportunity. Other companies to receive funding include Localoye, Zimmber, and Taskbob.
