Singtel Innov8's Bao Bean joins SOS Ventures
William Bao Bean, formerly managing director with corporate venture unit Singtel Innov8, has joined SOS Ventures as its investment partner in China.
He will take over as managing director of Chinaccelerator, the firm's Shanghai-based business accelerator.
Bao Bean spent four years with Singtel Innov8 - part of Singapore telecoms giant Singtel - where he was based in Beijing. Before that he worked at Softbank China & India Holdings and Deutsche Bank.
"My focus will remain direct investment in early-stage start-ups, angel through Series A, and will now also be driving the three-month Chinaccelerator program with two batches of 10 companies per year," Bao Bean said in a statement. "The goal is to provide international entrepreneurs a gateway into china and emerging Asia while giving china start-ups a US-style experience and the boost they need to go global."
SOS Ventures has offices in Ireland, Belgium, Texas, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It manages a $200 million evergreen fund investing in over 100 companies a year using a mentorship-focused accelerator investment model.
The firm runs six accelerators globally including software-focused Chinaccelerator in Shanghai, hardware-focused HAXLR8R in Shenzhen and sales-focused SELR8R in Birmingham, UK. The other accelerators target biotech, developers and designers, and food start-ups.
