Morning Crest leads $5.1m round for Australia's Airtasker
China's Morning Crest Capital has led a A$6.5 million ($5.1 million) investment in Australian local services marketplace Airtasker.
Other investors taking part in the round include Australia's Exto Partners, Carthona Capital, Black Sheep Capital, and the National Roads and Motorists' Association (NRMA).
Set up in 2012, the Sydney-based start-up offers an online platform through which individuals and companies can outsource tasks to other users and set service fees. Services offered on the platform include repairs, deliveries, repair, gardening, marketing, design, events, office administration, and computer services.
Airtasker claims to have more than 250,000 users across Australia, processing A$15 million in tasks every year. It previously raised A$2 million from Exto Partners in 2013.
This latest investment will be used for product development and to build the company's engineering capacity and customer support capabilities. With Morning Crest on board, the company is also looking to expand into China and the broader Asian market.
There has already been investment featuring online-to-offline services marketplaces elsewhere in Asia. Earlier this month Indian service marketplace LocalOye raised a $5 million Series A round from Tiger Global Management and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
