CLSA Capital Partners makes debut Pacific Transportation deal with OSL
CLSA Capital Partners has announced the first investment from its Pacific Transportation Asia logistics and shipping private equity unit, with a majority investment in OSL Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based dry bulk ship owner and operator.
CLSA Capital Partners' investment will be used to expand the OSL fleet, and its trading routes to capitalize on regional growth. Harald Lone, an experienced shipping industry veteran, will join OSL as CEO and incumbent MD Steven Yang will remain in his position. Although, CLSA did not disclose the size of the investment, Lloyds List reports indicated that it was around $100 million.
CLSA Capital Partners emphasized OSL's attractions for regional expansion, given its strong and long-standing relationships with cargo interests in Asia, particularly within China. Chairman of CLSA Capital Partners, Richard Pyvis, said publicly: “This investment provides direct exposure to robust Asia GDP growth stemming from intra-Asia trade and the urbanisation of Asian countries.”
