Fosun VC leads $20m round for China education firm Uniquedu
Uniquedu, a China-based education company, has raised a $20 million Series A round of funding led by Fosun Venture Capital Investment.
The funds will be use to promote its online education portal Kaikeba.com, as well as further develop its online-to-offline business, according to a statement.
Uniquedu had started off as a classic offline education service in 2010, with offices in Beijing, Silicon Valley, Miami, and Tokyo. In August, it launched its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform Kaikeba.
Similar to US online education platform Coursera, students who finish courses on the Kaikeba platform will receive certificates that are honored by its partner universities and can be exchanged for credits for a university degree. Uniquedu is backed by several Chinese universities, including Beihang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Dalian University of Technology, and Xiamen University.
