Aureos boosts NEP with $5m
Aureos South-East Asia Managers has injected $5 million in Malaysian water filtration company NEP to help expand its water filter rental scheme to China and throughout the ASEAN region.
NEP is involved in researching, assembling distributing and renting out water filtration systems under the Diamond brand. Founded in 1995, it claims to be the market leader in the residential water filtration market in Malaysia, as well as having a presence in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southern China.
Aureos channeled the capital via its Aureos Malaysia Fund. It plans to help NEP expand abroad as well as in its existing markets, having been was attracted to the deal due to NEP's environmentally friendly innovation and the strength of the DIAMOND brand.
"As Malaysian consumers become more affluent, they are increasingly concerned about health and about having chemicals and contaminants in their food and water. Diamond water filters provide the solution by giving consumers and families clean water that has been enriched with essential minerals for a healthy body," said Aureos Managing Partner Loh Chye Lin.
Due to increasing environmental pollution, the company expects its market share as a provider of clean water to grow rapidly. It aims to become one of the top three water filtration companies in the world.
News of Aureos' investment comes weeks after it was announced that the small and mid-cap investor had been acquired by Dubai-headquartered Abraaj Capital. The purchase creates an entity with approximately $7.5 billion in assets under management and 150 investment professionals across 30 countries, and is hoped to enable Abraaj to strengthen its emerging markets capabilities.
