Indian Angel Network invests in IndiaCollegeSearch
Indian Angel Network (IAN) investor members Vikram Kant Upadhyaya, Anupam Mittal and Varun Khurana have committed an undisclosed amount to IndiaCollegeSearch (ICS), a website that provides information on over 7,000 professional educational institutes.
The company was founded in 2010 and claims to have over 500,000 users. ICS allows students to apply directly to colleges and has processed over 50,000 admission applications in 2013.
ICS was part of IAN's incubator programme in 2011, where investor Vikram Kant Upadhyaya acted as mentor to scale up the business.
The funds raised will be used to expand its existing user base of students and colleges, while continuing to improve the quality and depth of the information it provides.
Education is considered a growing and recession resistant sector - over 10 million students in India enter college every year.
"IndiaCollegeSearch solves an important problem faced by number of college aspirants and scale around this," Mittal said. "Ventures in sectors like matrimonial, jobs and property, following a similar approach have been successful in India."
Info Edge, which owns job search portal Naukri.com, launched a similar education website, Shiksha.com, in 2008. It currently offers information on over 70,000 colleges and net sales grew 29% year-on-year in 2012.
