SBI commits $3m to Indian e-learning provider
SBI Holdings has invested more than $3 million in to India’s Liqvid, an online content provider that specializes in English language training. SBI Ven Capital Singapore's Brijesh Pande will join the Liqvid board.
Operating under the EnglishEdge brand name, Liqvid provides solutions for use on PCs, tablets and mobiles. It claims to have more than 250,000 learners across different education institutions and corporations. The British Council and IIT Delhi are among its customers. It also has a tie-up with BBC Active.
"The company has both proprietary English language content as well as a technologically superior delivery platform, which makes it a unique player in the spoken English market," said Pande. "We believe Liqvid's technology has wide applicability, not only in India, but in a number of non-native English speaking countries in Asia."
This funding will be used to support Liqvid's EnglishEdge Portable Language Lab business, which offers interactive features like record-compare, video and internet based activities. The company also wants to develop its presence in the college segment.
