KKR boosts Capstone's China capabilities
KKR has appointed Matthew Chang as a managing director in its Capstone unit. He will lead the PE firm’s engagement with its portfolio companies in China.
Prior to joining KKR Capstone, Chang was practice leader of Roland Berger Strategy Consulting's operational restructuring and operations team, as well as head of the Asia Pacific healthcare practice in Greater China.
Before that, he was China managing director at consulting firm AlixPartners and Asia strategy director at beverage company Diageo. He has also worked for McKinsey & Company.
"Matthew's entrepreneurial underpinning gives him great appreciation for the challenges faced by the entrepreneurs we often partner with in China, while his corporate and consulting experience arms him with an extensive toolkit for helping improve operations across a diverse range of sectors and industries," Scott Bookmyer, head of KKR Capstone Asia, said in a statement.
KKR Capstone has seven executives based in Beijing and Hong Kong who are native Mandarin speakers and can support companies in China at the working level. Capstone team members from across Asia and the rest of the world can also be called upon for specific sector and discipline expertise.
"Capstone plays an integral role in the operational improvement of portfolio companies, helping them to reach their full potential," said David Liu, CEO of KKR Greater China, in the statement.
Capstone has made several senior appointments in Asia in the last year. Akhil Puri was hired from TPG Capital as a director in India, while Hiro Shimizu and Sakae Suzuki joined as directors in Japan.
Capstone currently has more than 50 professionals globally and 18 in Asia.
