Singapore travel website gets seed funding from TNF, SingTel Innov8
Singapore-based online travel booking site Flocations has raised $570,000 seed funding round led by TNF Ventures and including SingTel Innov8, the corporate venture arm of SingTel – and angel investor Ben Ball.
Flocations was set up in February 2012 and was one of 11 start-ups inducted into the inaugural JFDI-SingTel Innov8 Bootcamp accelerator program earlier this year. The website is a standard search-by-price platform for short-haul destinations across Southeast Asia, but it presents users with an interactive map comparing travel options based on price rather than date and destination.
"Flocations' targeted market of short haul travellers and their search-by-price methodology is what's powerful," Shirley Wong, managing partner at TNF Ventures, said in a statement. "It changes the paradigm of traditional travel search and tries to disrupt the travel market by targeting a niche market."
The funds will be used to develop the website and add new features, including the introduction of a combined search for hotels and flights rolled up into one price. Flocations also wants to expand its coverage across Asia Pacific.
TNF Ventures is part of the Singapore National Research Foundation's Technology Incubator Scheme. Under the scheme, which also includes Tim Draper-backed Clearbridge Accelerator, selected incubators receive 85% of their total investment in each portfolio company - up to a ceiling of $400,000 - from the government.
