Indonesia VCs, incubators form lobbying alliance
Eight Indonesian venture capital firms and incubators have come together to form a lobbying group known as the Alliance of Venture Capitals in Indonesia (AVCII). Members include CyberAgent Ventures, East Ventures, GEPI, Grupara, Ideosource, Jakarta Founders Institute, Merah Putih Incubator, and Mountain Indonesia.
The group was started in response to speculation that the Indonesian government would extend regulations on foreign investment in offline retail to include online retail as well.
AVCII will be looking to establish links with government and regulatory institutions, as well as building support from conglomerates and government officials.
"We know that the VC industry is too small to reason with the government's new policies or laws, but at least having an alliance is better than having nothing to represent with," said Aryo Ariotedjo, founder of Grupara and vice chairman of AVCII, in statement on tech news site Sge.
Sebastian Togelang, founding partner at Mountain Indonesia, has been a appointed as chairman.
AVCII will also be a means through which members can share knowledge, resources and facilities, with a view to nurturing the start-up community though workshops, collaboration with local universities and investments in potential businesses.
The organization is open to all incubators, accelerators, and angel investors, both local and foreign, supporting the local tech scene.
