Jafco invests $2m in Japan leisure booking site

Globis Capital Partners and Jafco Ventures have invested JPY200 million ($1.95 million) in Catarizm, the Japanese start-up behind online leisure booking site Asoview.

Set up in 2011, Catarizm provides online booking services for a range of weekend activities - such as sky skydiving, horse trekking and handicraft - via its Asoview platform.

The site, which formed a partnership with Yahoo Japan's travel portal in October, boasts around 2,150 excursion activities from over 775 companies. The start-up has also launched an app for finding nearby sightseeing spots called Holipple.

According to a release, Catarizm will use this round of investment to improve its booking management system and to hire more call center representatives.

Catarizm's competitors in Japan's online leisure and travel space include Playlife and Trippiece. Playlife helps people seek out weekend activities in their local area, while Trippiece allows users to arrange group trips together.

The latter received JPY200 million from Draper Nexus Venture Partners, and others, last June.
