China’s Huakang Mobile Healthcare raises $32m from VCs
Yunfeng Capital, Shenzhen Cowin Capital, New Horizon Capital and Hunan Haijie Healthcare Investment have provided RMB200 million ($32 million) in Series B funding for Huakang Mobile Healthcare, a Chinese mobile healthcare app developer.
Founded in 2012, Huakang has launched a web-based platform, hk515.com, and two mobile apps. The first app, Yike, allows doctors to manage patients' records, look up the latest medical information, watch live broadcasts of medical conventions and search medical literature. It also serves as a networking platform for doctors.
The second app, Jiuyibao, enables patients to book medical appointments with doctors. They can also download diagnosis reports through the app.
The new funding will be used to develop medical services through mobile technology. The company wants to form partnerships with 200 hospitals this year, Bo Lin, Huakang's founder, told local media.
Online healthcare services are popular among VC and strategic investors. In August last year, Spring Rain Software raised $50 million from China International Capital Corp. (CICC), Rushan Investment Management, Temasek Holdings' Pavilion Capital and BlueRun Ventures.
Last September Tencent Holdings committed $70 million into dxy.com, a Chinese networking and information-sharing site for healthcare professionals. This was followed by a $100 million round for Guahao.com, a healthcare information portal.
