Macquarie hires 3i’s Paul Su in China
Macquarie Capital has named Paul Su, former senior director at 3i Group, as senior managing director and chairman for Greater China.
Su is the second high-profile appointment for Macquarie in Asia this year, parent company Macquarie Group appointed former Australian Ambassador to Beijing Geoff Raby as its vice chairman for China.
"Paul brings to Macquarie a deep understanding of the Greater China market with more than 15 years of investment banking as well as private equity experience," Macquarie said in a statement.
Su joined 3i in 2011, after 10 years at Credit Suisse. 3i launched operations in China in 2001 and now operates in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Investments include Focus Media, hotpot restaurant chain Little Sheep and department store PCD Stores.
Last year, 3i announced it would axe more than 160 staff and close six offices, including those in Hong Kong and Shanghai, in a move to bring its capacity down to a more realistic level.
