
Ropes & Gray opens in Shanghai
US-based law firm Ropes & Gray has opened its third Asian office, in Shanghai, to strengthen its practice in China for clients targeting the market for business.
Partner at the firm Arthur Mok, who joined in 2010, will lead the new bureau, leveraging his experience as a corporate lawyer in China with a focus on M&A and private equity transactions. Investment funds lawyer Geoffrey Chan will also join him in Shanghai as partner, and will focus on the creation of Chinese offshore US-dollar funds and domestic RMB private investment funds.
According to the firm, Ropes & Gray currently advises Chinese companies and other global clients from its international offices in Hong Kong, which opened in 2008; Tokyo, opened in 2007; London, and throughout the United States. Aside from private equity, Rope & Gray Shanghai will also focus on investment funds and life sciences.
