TA-owned SpeedCast completes another bolt-on
TA Associates-owned SpeedCast has made its third bolt-on acquisition in Australia in 18 months, purchasing a fixed and mobile satellite solutions provider SatComms Australia for an undisclosed sum.
SatComms' CEO Andrew Burdall, and COO Piers Cunningham will remain involved and take on leadership roles in SpeedCast.
SpeedCast, based in Hong Kong, said the acquisition - which is still subject to regulatory approval - would further consolidate its leadership position in the Asia-Pacific region and boost the company's presence in Australia.
"SatComms uniquely complements SpeedCast's leadership in the very small aperture terminal (VSAT) market with great strength in mobile satellite services, extensive teleport infrastructure in Western Australia, and a sales and engineering presence in Queensland," Pierre-Jean Beylier, CEO of SpeedCast, said in a statement.
Headquartered in Queensland, SatComms serves customers in the natural resources, maritime and government sectors.
In the middle of last year, SpeedCast acquired Australian satellite communications service provider Pactel Intenational. The deal followed the purchase of Australian Satellite Communications (ASC) in December 2012.
In the same statement, SpeedCast announced that John Mackay, current board member and former chairman and CEO of Transact Communications, will replace Edward Sippel, managing director of TA Associates, as chairman of the board.
TA Associates bought SpeedCast from Asia Satellite Telecommunications two years ago in a $32.2 million deal. The global network and satellite communication service provider offers managed network services in more than 60 countries.
