Global Brain, Dentsu, Mitsui in $6.1m round for Japan's Kabuku
Japan-based Kabuku, manager of 3-D printing service Rinkak, has closed a JPY750 million ($6.1 million) Series A round with participation by Global Brain, Dentsu Digital Holdings and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Venture Capital.
This funding round was opened in August, when Global Brain committed $3.3 million. It follows a 2014 seed round led by Cyberagent Ventures for $2 million. The company will use the new funds to expand its sales and marketing activities, according to a release, with the goal of growing into additional countries.
Kabuku, founded in 2013, aims to find new applications for 3-D printing and grow its appeal to new customers. The Rinkak service allows designers to outsource their manufacturing by uploading 3-D models to be printed and sold to consumers on demand.
In addition, the company has partnered with prominent manufacturers in a number of industries to introduce new applications for 3-D printing. Its collaborators include Toyota, for whom it produces customized vehicle parts, and Olympus, for whom it makes parts for the Olympus Air cameras.
