Partners Group recruits Australia private equity head

Partners Group has appointed Toby Mannock, previously an investment banker at ANZ, as a managing director and head of private equity in Australia.
The hiring is positioned as part of the firm’s efforts to become a more active investor in Australia and New Zealand, having previously prioritised client fundraising. On announcing the shift in focus last October, Partners Group said its head of Australia, Martin Scott, would take on an expanded role that included building out local investment capabilities.
In a statement regarding Mannock’s recruitment, Partners Group said that it wants to make one or two direct private equity investments in Australia and New Zealand each year. Recent activities include the sale of CWP Renewables to Squadron Energy in what is described as the largest renewables sale ever seen in Australia.
Sydney-based Mannock began his finance career at KPMG in Australia and then spent four years with the British Army’s parachute regiment. He entered the M&A advisory space in 2008 with Renaissance Capital in London and returned to Australia in 2019 to work for ANZ.
His appointment follows the departure of Ravi Jeyaraj, who led private equity direct investments in Australia for Partners Group. Jeyaraj joined Tanarra Capital, a multi-strategy alternatives manager established by Carnegie & Wylie alumnus John Wylie, last November as head of private equity.
