Adams Street establishes Australia presence

Adams Street Partners has opened an office in Sydney, which will be led by Shaun Thomas, an investor relations principal who joined the firm last November.
This is the firm’s 12th office globally and fifth in the Asia Pacific region, joining Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, and Beijing. Seoul was the most recent addition before Sydney. Adams Street opened there in 2017 at a time when numerous investors were recruiting fundraising talent in Korea.
Adams Street noted Australia’s superannuation industry represents the fourth-largest pension market globally with approximately AUD 3.4trn (USD 2.2trn) in assets. The country also claims a sizeable private wealth segment, with independent wealth management platforms proliferating in recent years to tap the high net worth and family office constituencies.
“Institutional investors in Australia are increasingly focused on allocating to private markets,” said Ben Hart, a partner and head of Asia investor relations at Adams Street, in a statement. “We are seeing considerable demand from the Australian private markets community for solutions, including custom accounts and evergreen structured products.”
Thomas was previously a vice president at Partners Group in Australia, where he managed distribution to the private wealth, family office and wholesale market with a focus on both evergreen and closed-ended offerings. Prior to that, he worked for Grant Samuel Funds Management.
Adams Street has more than USD 52bn in assets under management globally. It offers private markets exposure through primary fund commitments, secondaries, co-investments, direct growth equity investments, and private credit.
