Alvarez & Marsal expands PE coverage in Australia

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Timo Schmid as a managing director and head of its newly established private equity performance improvement practice in Australia and New Zealand.
Schmid previously spent six years at BCG, leading the firm’s private equity practice in the same geographies. Before that, he worked in corporate strategy for Wesfarmers.
At A&M, Schmid is tasked with advising private equity and infrastructure investors, as well as corporates, on target identification, pre-deal due diligence, and post-deal value creation efforts. Post-deal activities typically include formulating 100-day plans, working on operational and business improvement projects, and preparing portfolio companies for exit.
The formation of a private equity performance improvement practice in Australia follows the introduction of A&M’s dedicated Southeast Asia and Australia division and the hiring of more than 100 professionals in the past year, according to a statement. The firm has offices in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Ho Chi Minh City.
A&M provides advisory, business performance improvement and turnaround management services, employing over 7,000 people across five continents.
