US private debt player Waterfall launches in Hong Kong

Waterfall Asset Management, a US alternatives manager primarily active in the private debt space, has established an Asia presence with the opening of an office in Hong Kong.
The firm has recruited Alistair Ho, who previously covered structured finance and private debt at Natixis Investment Managers in Hong Kong, to lead the Asia buildout. Ho has also worked for Ostrum Asset Management and Mizuho Securities in Asia.
Waterfall will focus on providing private debt solutions for regional non-bank financial institutions, middle market corporates, and real estate-related borrowers.
“There is a tremendous opportunity for private debt offerings and opportunistic financing across the region, particularly with its growing middle market and regulatory changes,” Jack Ross and Tom Capasse, co-founders and managing partners of Waterfall, said in a statement.
“Additionally, with our deep expertise and ability to craft flexible capital solutions we believe we have considerable competitive advantages as we pursue that opportunity on behalf of our investors.”
Founded in 2005, Waterfall has approximately USD 11bn in assets under management, primarily across credit and loan products. It added a private equity strategy in 2017.
